More Log Cabins Articles Double glazing can be an important investment for homeowners, helping to "cut heating bills by around £130 a year", the Energy Savings Trust (EST) has said.
The group noted that in addition to providing extra warmth, double-glazed windows can also reduce noise and condensation problems - factors that could also benefit garden buildings like log cabins and summer houses.
EST offered the advice after noting that windows, draughts and other ventilation account for 30 per cent of heat lost from homes.
Warm air can also escape though gaps in floors and skirting boards. This problem can be addressed with sealant or even newspaper, EST said.
The tips were published as part of Energy Saving Week, a drive to encourage people to cut costs and become more energy efficient.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, Anna-Marie Desouza, editor at Build It magazine, suggested that homeowners who experience a DIY disaster should not give up on improving their property.
