There may now be more log cabins in the UK than households, according to a new poll.

A number of tradesmen have been quizzed by Screwfix, with the results suggesting that the market for outbuilding such as log cabins and garden offices is currently thriving.

The lower construction costs associated with outbuildings are helping to enhance their popularity, it is believed.

Alex Johnson, shed expert and author of the newly published book, Shedworking, said: "Sheds feed into the pioneering instincts in all of us. There is something about having a log cabin in the wild.

"While most British gardens can't really compete with the wild west, there is a lot to be said for getting away from the bricks and mortar – and in my view, that's why sheds are so popular."

Log cabins can also prove to be a prime location for a cosy break, with Love Actually star Martine McCutcheon stating last year that she intended to spend her Christmas in a log cabin.
