With sustainability and cutting our impact on the environment major topics in today's news, log cabins can be a good choice for those considering improving their property.
Whether as a home in itself, a garden office, summerhouse or sauna unit, log cabins offer quality at a cost-effective price.
The structures are often less expensive than people would think and offer a range of possibilities from guest houses to garden retreats.
By following our detailed instructions and building the log cabin yourself, it is possible to save even further, although those who do not have the time can have their building work done for them.
Use our log cabin wizard
When choosing the ideal log cabin, it is important to consider the type of wood, style, log width, insulation, lighting and size.
Factors that should affect your choice include what the log cabin will be used for and whether it will be in use all year round.
To help decide on the best model for you, we have a handy Log Cabin Wizard which takes your width, depth and log width requirements and suggests which style might be best for you.
For example, those looking for a log cabin that is 4,000mm by 5,000mm and has a log width of 44mm would be advised to look at the Liverpool 4x5 or the Devon 4x5 models.
Windsor Log Cabin
One of our more popular choices is the Windsor Log Cabin, which comes with a recommended retail price of £1,021. The package comes with 28mm flat-faced wall boards with single grooved interlocking and features a canopy extending 400mm from the front of the structure. A simple design, the log cabin measures 2,900mm by 2,200mm with a wall height of 1,935mm - which extends to 2,575mm at the peak of the roof. It is worth bearing in mind that we offer felt shingle roofing materials that substantially improve the weather-proofing on log cabins as well as look more appealing to the eye. Those who do not opt for this should visit their local builders' merchants and buy felt covering to protect their roof.
Manchester Log Cabin
At the high end of the scale the Manchester Log Cabin offers a comfortable and stylish garden retreat, complete with double-grooved interlock and double-glazed windows and door. A large veranda also creates a sheltered outdoor space in which to enjoy summer evenings and, with an overall external size of 3,990mm by 5,850mm, the Manchester could be the ideal place to house guests in privacy. In total, the interior offers 14 sq m which can be moulded into a comfortable guest room or garden escape. The 68mm logs used to build the log cabin should also help to keep it warm, although a range of insulating materials are available for those who wish to use it all year round.
Log Houses
Furthermore, those who wish to really impress their guests or who are considering building a wooden home or holiday home may be interested in our range of stylish log houses. These impressive structures range in price from £6,932 for the Fay Log House to £20,577 for the two-storey Lincoln Log House. The latter comfortably sleeps four and features two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, living room and upper and lower balconies.
