Homeowners planning to invest in their garden during 2010 might be interested in attending a course to help further their knowledge of gardening.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) hosts a number of such events each year, with Garden Wisley offering a full range of workshops and educational days for adults.

A short course or workshop can be a great way to extend one's knowledge of a specific area of horticulture, the organisation said.

These can improve existing skills and build up new ones that will help create the garden of your dreams.

Meanwhile, a simple guided garden walk could help interested parties pick up tips, advice and inspiration to take home with them.

The RHS advises attendees to bring a pen and paper to take notes and to be aware that the walks go ahead regardless of weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the garden offers regular demonstrations by experts, which last around two hours and could be beneficial for enthusiasts looking to perfect their technique for the growing season.

Courses are also run at the RHS' other garden sites, although Harlow Carr is not hosting any until later in the year as it is upgrading its facilities.   - 26 February 2010
