Felt Roofing Shingles. Winter Use

The recent bout of cold weather has prompted this post after I recently completed an installation of an Alpina 4×3 cabin. Arriving on site, the temperature had again plummeted to well below freezing. There was the timber pack, nicely wrapped with tarpaulin to keep warm and dry, however the packs of shingles were left in their shrink wrapped polythene open to the elements.

If exposed to freezing conditions, your shingles will become just like a Jacobs Cream Cracker, brittle and very easily damaged.

If you to are installing your log cabin during extreme temFelt Shinglesperatures it is good advise to store the felt shingles in the warm until just before you are to use them.

Keep warm !

Log cabin owners urged to protect against the elements

Log cabin owners should take measures to protect their outdoor equipment against the elements, it has been argued.

An article by Tarpaflex, a UK-based tarpaulin supplier, notes that many people invest “considerable amounts of money” in their homes and exteriors.

“It doesn’t just end with the garden furniture; if you enjoy gardening you’ll more than likely have various appliances and tools that you rely on to keep the place looking ship shape,” it said. “Going into the shed to do the first bit of gardening next spring only to find that your tools haven’t lasted too well over the winter is frustrating at best.”
